Questions?

My interview is on Monday and I am having a difficult time coming up with questions to ask the recruiter!  I feel like I have done so much reading on the Peace Corps that anything I ask, I will already know the answer to!

The only ones I have come up with so far are:
-How does PC find host families?
-What was the recruiter's biggest challenge during her service?
-What did she find most rewarding?

Any other suggestions? I have been thinking for days and my brain is starting to threaten violence if  I continue harassing it.

  1. One i meant to ask but forgot was: how are volunteers evaluated (progress reviews); criteria & how often etc.

I had a tax question too...but you'll find that out too when you get your invitation kit.

  2. I'm sure they will talk to you about this, but you could ask if they have any suggestions on how you can strengthen your application.

  3. I personally like to hear RPCVs stories about how they dealt with certain cultural differences, like food.

My recruiter told me a story about how he tried a dish that tasted familiar, but couldn't quite figure out what it was. He ate it, and THEN asked what it was. It ended up being something with curdled pig's blood in it.

From what I've read/seen, most recruiters like it when you ask them questions about their service. RPCVs often talk about how most people don't really want to hear ALL of their stories, so not only would you be a captive audience, it would give you a better idea of some of the things that you may or may not encounter during your service.

  4. i agree with Elizabeth... your interviewer is surely a former volunteer. ask him/her specific questions about the experience - type of food available, living situation, illnesses... it's hard to ask general questions because there are too many possibilities. so, be specific with that one person.

  5. In addition to what's already been said, I would ask some questions along the lines of safety. (In some blogs, people had guards, but most didn't.)
